Welcome/Admission Additional Admission Information At Tara, we believe in a holistic approach, addressing the mind, body and spirit, blended with the 12-step programs are necessary for continued abstinence. Upon admission to Tara all clients complete a Biopsychosocial Assessment to identify their needs so an individualized treatment plan can be developed. All clients will meet with our Medical Director for a history and physical. Medications are continually monitored for effectiveness by the nursing staff. The clients are educated to a variety of health topics including, proper diet, exercise, STD's, contraceptives, hepatitis, HIV, AIDS and tuberculosis. Each client is given a PPD and they are offered HIV and hepatitis testing. They also complete pre and post psychological testing, which may indicate the need for medication, behavior modification or other forms of treatment directed by a psychiatrist. Clients also participate in a daily exercise program to enhance their well-being. The buildings are all smoke free and we offer assistance with smoking cessation. Chronic pain has been a factor for many clients and a component of the relapse process. It is crucial for them to be educated to non-addicted medications and non-pharmacological methods to cope with their pain. Most clients have little hope when entering the facility and need to develop a faith in something other than alcohol and drugs. The 12-step programs are spiritual in nature and help many to return to their childhood beliefs. For others it may be establishing a faith for the first time. I believe God is the ultimate healer and that sober and/or clean time allows for miracles to happen in an individual's life.
