Meet Our Staff

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Theresa Matthews, MS, BSN, RN, NCAC II, CADAC IV, ICAC II, ACRPS
Theresa Matthews is the eldest daughter of the founder, Ann Daugherty. She has been employed at Tara Treatment Center, Inc. since its inception in 1985. Ms. Matthews has held many positions and been instrumental in the development of each level of care. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Nursing at Indiana University and her Masters in Business Management at Indiana Wesleyan in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2003.

Licensure and Certification: Ms. Matthews is a National Certified Addiction Counselor II (NCAC II), Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor IV (CADAC IV), Indiana Certified Addiction Counselor II (ICAC II), and an Advanced Certified Relapse Prevention Specialist (ACRPS) through Terence Gorski's Relapse Prevention School.

Professional Affiliations: Ms. Matthews is a member of the Indiana Counselors Association on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ICAADA), The Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC), and The Indiana Association for Addiction Professionals (IAAP). Ms. Matthews is a 1998 graduate of Leadership Johnson County. She was chosen as an Honoree for the 2006 Speaking of Women's Health. The women honored reflect individuals who have enhanced the quality of life in the community through their efforts in the field of women's health.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR
James D. Kozarek, M.D.
Dr. Kozarek has been Tara's Medical Director since June 1996. He is a graduate from the University of Wisconsin Medical School.

Licensure and Certification: Dr. Kozarek is a Board-Certified Family Physician.

Professional Affiliations: Dr. Kozarek is a member of the Indiana Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Board of Family Practice. Dr. Kozarek is affiliated with the Johnson Memorial Hospital, Franklin, Indiana and the Columbus Regional Hospital, Columbus, Indiana.

CLINICAL DIRECTOR
Brian K. Nichelson, PH.D., HSPP
Dr. Nichelson has been Tara's Clinical Director since 1995. He received his Ph.D. from Indiana State University in 1991.

Licensure and Certification: He obtained a Certificate of Proficiency in the treatment of alcohol and psychoactive substance use disorders in December 1997 from the American Psychological Association. Dr. Nichelson is endorsed as a Health Service Provider in Psychology and licensed as a Psychologist by the Board of Examiners in Psychology by the State of Indiana Health Professions Bureau.

Professional Affiliations: Dr. Nichelson is a member of the American Psychological Association, Indiana Psychological Association and the Allied Health Staff at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Franklin, Indiana.

CLINICAL SUPERVISOR
Cindy Schroeder, MSW, LSW
Ms. Schroeder joined the Tara Treatment Center team in 2010. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Indiana Institute of Technology and her Master's degree in Social Work from Indiana University School of Social Work.

Licensure and Certification: Ms. Schroeder is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW), a Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Six Sigma Green Belt.

Professional Affiliations: Ms. Schroeder is a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and serves as a committee member of the Indiana Crisis Intervention Team, a model program designed to improve the outcomes of law enforcement interactions with people suffering from mental illness.  Ms. Schroeder is a member of the Central Indiana Red Cross Disaster Action Team and a member of the Indiana Counselors Association on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ICAADA).

WOMEN'S PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Jennifer Parker, BSW, CADAC IV, ACRPS
Ms. Parker has been employed at Tara Treatment Center, Inc. since 1997. She obtained her Bachelors in Social Work from Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1997.

Licensure and Certification: Ms. Parker is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor IV (CADAC IV), and an Advanced Certified Relapse Prevention Specialist (ACRPS) through Terence Gorski's Relapse Prevention School. Ms. Parker is a Certified Team Building Instructor.

Professional Affiliations: Ms. Parker is a member of the Indiana Counselors Association on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ICAADA) and has been involved in many professional and civic organizations including Johnson County Step Ahead Council.

WOMEN'S PROGRAM COUNSELOR
Denise High, MS, LMHC, SAP, CEAP, NBCC, MAC, CISD
Ms. High has been employed at Tara Treatment Center, Inc. since 2003. She received her Bachelor's degree in Education and Psychology from Indiana University. Ms. High obtained her Masters in Counseling in 1992 from Indiana
University, Indianapolis.

Licensure and Certification: Ms. High is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP), National Board Certified Counselor (NBCC), Master Addictions Counselor (MAC), and certified in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD). Ms. High is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Ms. High is an Indiana Licensed Teacher, and School Counselor.

Professional Affiliations: In addition to her professional and civic involvement, she has coordinated services for families of at risk children.

MEN'S PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Annie Novotny, BS, CADAC IV, ICAC II, ACRPS
Ms. Novotny has been employed at Tara Treatment Center, Inc. since 1991. She obtained her Bachelor's of Science degree in Addictions Counseling from Indiana Wesleyan in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1997.

Licensure and Certification: Ms. Novotny is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor IV (CADAC IV), Indiana Certified Addiction Counselor II (ICAC II) and an Advanced Certified Relapse Prevention Specialist (ACRPS) through Terence Gorski's Relapse Prevention School. She is also a licensed Adult Probation Officer.

Professional Affiliations: Ms. Novotny is a member of the Indiana Counselors Association on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ICAADA), the Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC), and Indiana Association for Addiction Professionals (IAAP).

MEN'S PROGRAM COUNSELOR
Barbara Warner, MSW, LSW, LCSW
Ms. Warner has been employed at Tara Treatment Center, Inc. since April of 2007. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Indiana University Purdue University Columbus, Indiana in 2003. Ms. Warner received her Master's in Social Work from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis in 2007.

Licensure and Certification: Ms. Warner is a Licensed Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Team Building Instructor.

Professional Affiliations: Ms. Warner is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

OUTPATIENT PROGRAM FACILITATOR
Bill Crane, MA, CAS, LSW, LMFT
Mr. Crane facilitates the Intensive Outpatient (IOP), Outpatient (OP), and Aftercare (AC) programs. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Purdue University in 1987 and his Masters in Psychology from Newport University in 1991.

Licensure and Certification: Mr. Crane is a Certified Addictions Specialist (CAS), Licensed Social Worker (LSW), and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

Professional Affiliations: Mr. Crane is a member of the American Academy of Health Care Providers in the Addictive Disorders, and a past member of the Regional Advisory Board for the Governor's Commission for a Drug Free Indiana. Mr. Crane is a life member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

OUTPATIENT CASE MANAGER
Amber Hoff, BA
Ms. Hoff has been employed at Tara Treatment Center, Inc. since July 2007. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Franklin College, Franklin Indiana. Ms. Hoff received recognition as outstanding Sociology student in 2002.

FAMILY PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Tony Brenner, MSW, MSOM, LCSW, LAc, CADAC IV
Mr. Brenner obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Purdue University in 1990, his Master of Social Work degree from Indiana University/ Purdue University of Indianapolis in 1992, and his Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine from the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine in 2005.

Licensure and Certification: Mr. Brenner is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), a Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc), and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor IV (CADAC IV). He is certified as an addictions counselor and has worked in a variety of settings providing substance abuse and/or mental health treatment services since 1992.

Professional Affiliations: He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Indiana Counselors Association on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Indiana Association of Addictions Professionals, and the Indiana Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

NURSING SUPERVISOR
Jessica Daugherty, LPN
Ms. Daugherty has been employed at Tara Treatment Center, Inc. since 2002. Ms. Daugherty coordinates standards for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and all admissions into the treatment programs. She obtained her Associate's degree in Nursing from IVY Tech Community College of Columbus, Indiana in 2002.

Licensure and Certification: Ms. Daugherty is ServSafe certified.

COMMUNITY LIAISON
Bill Kindle, NCAC I, CEAP, LAP-C
Mr. Kindle has been employed at Tara Treatment Center, Inc. since 2006. Previously, he worked for General Motors Corporation as Coordinator for their Employee Assistance Program, retiring after 34 years of service. He is our liaison for referral sources and community members.

Licensure and Certification: Mr. Kindle is a National Certified Addictions Counselor (NCAC I), a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) and a Labor Assistance Professional-Certified (LAP-C).

Accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

Certified by the State of Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, Division of Mental Health and Addiction as an Addiction Services Provider and Managed Care Provider for Chronically Addicted.
